(Oct. 19, 2010)--The UTSA Orchestra and the UTSA Women's Chorus will perform Gustav Holst's "The Planets," at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 21 in the UTSA Recital Hall on the Main Campus. Under the direction of UTSA Conductor Eugene Dowdy, the ensemble for the free concert will be comprised of 70 university students, both music and non-music majors.
During the concert, images of each planet will be shown. The images with captions will cover the historical period from early telescopic sketches and photos to recent images from satellites and telescopes launched by NASA.
Eric Schlegel, the UTSA Vaughan Family Professor of Physics and Astrophysics, will introduce the concert with remarks about our developing knowledge of planets.
"I think the audience will appreciate the considerable increase in knowledge of the planets we have gained during the past 90 years," said Schlegel.
